Why does Unicity use carrageenan is some formulations?

Carrageenan is used in very small amounts as the thickening agent in Unicity Complete. In joint meetings between WHO and FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization, run by the United Nations) committee members, carrageenan has been repeatedly classified with a “not-specified” ADI (Acceptable Daily Intake), which is the best toxicity rating a substance can get. After considering the available scientific data, the committee decided that the toxicity level of carrageenan is negligible and that stipulations on its use in food products are unnecessary.
